Anton Rudolf Mauve (1838-1888) In 1886 Mauve moved to the Laren, where he helped to found the Laren School with his partners Jozef Israels and Albert Nehuys. Mauve initially studied in the studio of Van Os, an academic and traditional painter. Mauve eventually strayed from Os’s painting methods and began using looser brushwork and a more intense and brilliant palette.
Biography Anton Mauve. Anthonij (Anton) Rudolf Mauve was a Dutch realist painter who was a leading member of the Hague School. He signed his paintings ‘A. Mauve’ or with a monogrammed ‘A.M.’.
