Many reviews come into Yelp, appear on the page for a day or two, and then disappear. These reviews are stuck down in a “not recommended” section, causing them to no longer be (easily) visible.
Getting hundreds of reviews has never been easier. Podium allows you to send review invites through text. The current factsheet, from July ’10, is available at . It states that Yelp has “more than 11 million reviews”, and that restaurants account for 29% of that, so the safe estimate for July is about 3.2m restaurant reviews.

But this is NOT how the Yelp filter works, at least not in our case. We have 231 reviews and a five star rating until today. Now it’s 4 1/2 because we got a 4 star review today and Yelp filtered yet another 5 star review. Of the 231 reviews Yelp has filtered 32; 27 five star and 5 four star reviews.
Many companies listed on Yelp have a number of positive reviews from real customers that are stuck in the filter. If your business currently has 3 stars, for example, bumping a few 5-star reviews out of the filter and onto the main page could gain a full star or more.
