Build the base of the platform with two layers of inexpensive plywood—these sheets can be low-grade, as they won’t be seen or lifted on directly; they just need to create a base of support and absorption. Lay two 4×8 sheets side by side along the long edges, with the seam between the two running front to back.

How to Build a Weightlifting Platform. For the past year, I’ve been lifting on a piece of 1/4″ rubber matting. It’s served its purpose in providing traction and protecting my garage floor from heavy weights being dropped (in a controlled fashion) on the ground. But I’ve never been completely satisfied with it.
1. Mark out your dedicated platform area, this can be done with tape, paint, or whatever form of marker you’d like to use. 2. Cut if you need to, and place the first layer of plywood/particle board. If you have two slabs, then screwing them together can be beneficial to prevent them from sliding.
Use the liquid nails to glue the two bottom boards of wood together. Make sure they align perfectly.
