At the time, the artist was engaged in what has become known as his Rose Period, during which he rendered his subjects in vivid red, orange, pink, and earthy tones. Fernande appears in numerous compositions of this era, and she served as the model for both of the women depicted in La toilette. This painting is a poignant study in contrasts.

I ordered this canvas print to replace a framed poster of “La Toilette” by Degas. The canvas is really nice and the finish is excellent. I was disappointed that art.com didn’t center the image on the canvas. Instead, the image leaves a 1/2 inch on the right and 2 inches on the bottom “blank.” It would have looked so much better centered.
