Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test. The PFT is a semi-annual evaluation, which is conducted in green-on-green T-shirt and shorts, socks, and running shoes. The green-on-green sweat suit may be used in winter climates. Gloves may also be worn. The PFT has three events, pull-ups (Flexed-Arm Hang for females), abdominal crunches, and a 3-mile run.
Push-ups – Pull-up Hybrid. The new change also allows the Marine to choose between pull-ups or push-ups. The Marine who chooses push-ups will not max the test with a 300 even if he can score the maximum points on the push-ups. So the push-ups are not weighted as heavily as the pull-ups.
United States Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test. Each test must have an interval of 6 months (same standards apply for reservists). The PFT ensures that Marines are keeping physically fit and in a state of physical readiness. It consists of pull-ups or push-ups, crunches and a 3-mile run.

The Pull-Up Conundrum. The max score possible for push-ups will be 70. To earn this max 70 points, most women will need to complete 40 to 50 push-ups in 2 minutes and men, 70 to 80. You’ll have to make up points to score highly on your test with impressive performances on the sit-ups and run.

If Pull-ups are selected and the Marine is not able to perform the minimum number of repetitions, the Marines will then take the Push-up test.
Execution. They lift their bodies together with a shout of “Marine Corps!”. To perform the move, your arms must be fully extended and your muscles tight in your abdominals, gluteus and thighs to hold your body straight. Each push-up uses a count of four: lower, lift, lower and lift equals one push-up for the Marines.
This means that only PFT and CFT scores on the new tables will be considered in BCP decisions. Technically, the first date when both scores can be considered is 1 July 2017, assuming a for-record CFT using the new scoring tables is run that day. Although push-ups are used for physical fitness purposes, they are not usually counted, and don’t really matter as they’re not part of the PFT (Personal Fitness Test.) The PFT is used to determine the physical abilities of a Marine, and play a major role in getting promoted through the ranks.
