The act of smoking any plant product can have adverse health effects, including irritation of acid reflux. If you were to smoke the clippings of mowing your lawn, there would be adverse health effects. It is the effect of smoking the marijuana that would interfere with the effectiveness of the acid controlling medicines. Although there are limited studies looking specifically at treatment of acid reflux, there is some evidence that cannabinoids may help with acid irritation syndromes, including acid reflux. If used for this indication, it would be more logical to take the cannabinoid by oral intake rather than by smoking.Correct. There is no evidence of interference of cannabinoids with acid controlling medicines. There is, of course, limited ability to perform formal studies of an illegal drug, but even pharmacologic cannabinoids, such as Marinol, have not been shown to interfere with acid controlling medicines. You’re welcome. The human body generally tries to stay in equilibrium. If a drug is given that has a desired effect on the body, the body frequently has compensatory mechanisms that try to moderate the effect of the drug, although the drug is typically strong enough to overcome the compensatory mechanisms. When the drug is stopped, it is true that the compensatory mechanisms are initially present without the drug to counteract it, but the body will again return to equilibrium with diminishment of the compensatory mechanism. Regarding the stomach, there is evidence that these compensatory mechanism are trying to increase acid production, but there is little evidence that there is significant adverse outcomes associated with stopping the drug. To whatever extent there is the development of compensatory mechanisms, it is also likely to happen with cannabinoids and there is no reason to think that cannabinoids would be different.Compensatory mechanisms usually respond very quickly, within a few days. It potentially can occur with any substance that has a desired effect on the body, regardless of the source of the substance (drug, herb, etc.). If the nutritional supplement is intended to support adequate intake of a substance, such as a vitamin, then there may be no effect that may cause a compensatory mechanism. But if high doses of a vitamin is taken in an attempt to have a desired effect on the body, it can potentially cause a compensatory mechanism.
